John Messara AM has made an outstanding contribution to Australian thoroughbred breeding, racing and administration. His 1987 purchase of historic Arrowfield Stud has re-established it as one of the country’s pre-eminent breeding farms. Three generations of Australian Champion Sires - Danehill, Redoute’s Choice and Snitzel – have stood at Arrowfield in the Hunter Valley. He has streamlined the shuttling of the world’s best stallions between the southern and northern hemispheres, and in partnership raced champion horses such as Flying Spur and Miss Finland. Off the track, his long list of achievements includes serving as the Chairman of Racing New South Wales from 2011–16, and Racing Australia from 2014–16.
