Xenon and Argon

NOTICE TO INDUSTRY

SCHEDULE 1, PART 1, DIVISION 1 (PROHIBITED LIST A)

Industry participants are reminded that Xenon and Argon are prohibited substances in accordance with Schedule 1, Part 1, Division 1 (Prohibited List A) of the Rules of Racing because they are categorised as both erythropoeisis-stimulating agents and also hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)-1 stabilisers.

Methods of analysis for the detection of Xenon and Argon in blood and urine samples have been developed and Racing Victoria is committed to ensure that the practice of Xenon and Argon administration does not pose a threat to the integrity of thoroughbred racing and the welfare of competing horses.

Samples found to contain Xenon or Argon by Official Racing Laboratories will be reported to the Stewards in accordance with AR 259.

Further, participants are advised that samples currently stored at the Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) Forensic Laboratory, may under the provisions of AR 259 be resubmitted to be analysed for Xenon and Argon.
