Racing Victoria (RV), in conjunction with the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) and Melbourne Racing Club (MRC), can confirm that the race conditions and published weights for the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup and 2024 Sportsbet Caulfield Cup will remain unchanged.
All parties acknowledge recent industry feedback and commentary, including representations from the Victorian Jockeys Association (VJA), regarding the published weights for both races in light of the horses that have nominated and accepted for this year’s editions.
Whilst this commentary has merit, RV, VRC and MRC are aligned that it would be inappropriate to change the conditions of either race this year given that connections have entered and paid up for their horses in the belief that they would be competing under the published conditions.
RV, VRC and MRC will work with all relevant stakeholders following this year’s Spring Racing Carnival to review the conditions and allocation of weights for both races and consider what changes may be appropriate in 2025.
