Retired racehorses will take centre stage this Thursday, 30 November 2017 as they contest the Off The Track National Show Horse Championship at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.
The event is exclusive to retired thoroughbred racehorses that have competed in an official trial or started in a race, locally, nationally or internationally.
Invitations for the National Championship have been issued to the riders of horses that have competed successfully in their respective Off the Track state final.
Horse and rider combinations from Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland will contest the event, which will be co-judged by experts from both the show horse and racing industries.
Due to unprecedented Ridden entries in the event this year, there will be a Preliminary Ridden Round taking place at 10am on the outdoor general purpose arena.
The Top 10 combinations will progress to the Ridden Championship from 6:30pm on Thursday evening.
Reigning 2016 champions Briony Randle and her ex racehorse Entourage are returning to defend their title against a strong field, including 2017 Garryowen winner SLM Mercedes and 2017 Col. A.V Pope Cup winner Mikimoto.
Another exciting entrant is that of former Bart Cummings-trained and two-time Moonee Valley Cup champion Precedence, who ran in the Melbourne Cup and amassed almost $2 million in prizemoney during his career.
The evening will also feature some glamourous ladies and gentlemen in their finest outfits for the Off The Track Fashions Show, which sees competitors don their finest Spring Racing Carnival outfit alongside the ultimate fashion accessory, their Off The Track thoroughbred.
Categories include Best Presented Fillies and Fashionistas (lady handlers aged 14 years and over) and Master and Gentlemen (male handlers aged 14 years and over) with the winner receiving a $300 Myer voucher.
