The objective of the Apprentice Jockey Training Program (AJTP) selection process is to select competent and capable Apprentice Jockeys, who have the greatest prospects to go on and enjoy successful careers with longevity as jockey athletes, whilst contributing to the sustainability of the Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Industry.
Selection Criteria
1. The AJTP Applicant is regularly riding trackwork, and by November of the year of application to the AJTP has completed Certificate III (Trackwork Rider).
2. During the period of assessment, the AJTP Applicant shows consistent improvement in riding ability, body strength and conditioning, physique management, positive aptitude and attitude, and can demonstrate the ability to sustain all of these.
3. The Applicant must meet RV Licensing requirements.
4. They attend all training and testing days scheduled by RV, actively engages with the formal training and the specialist providers involved.
5. The Applicant demonstrates high behavioural standards, respect and personal responsibility for their career.
6. The Applicant responds and submits all completed and requested documentation by deadlines set by Racing Victoria.
7. Throughout the selection process, the Applicant is available to be viewed on the track by Racing Victoria apprentice jockey coaches.
8. The Applicant submits riding videos to be viewed by Racing Victoria apprentice jockey coaches as requested.
9. They are an Australian resident or holder of a visa with eligibility for entry to Apprenticeship.
10. The Applicant satisfies a police check and probity check conducted by Racing Victoria.
