Yarra Valley Cup meeting abandoned due to heavy rainfall

Racing Victoria (RV) wishes to advise that today’s Jack Hirsch Memorial Yarra Valley Cup Day has been abandoned after the running of the first race, with heavy rain rendering the track at bet365 Yarra Valley unsuitable for racing.
With a total of 22mm of rain having fallen since 7.30am this morning and surface water forming on the track, RV Stewards took the decision to abandon the meeting at 1.18pm this afternoon in order to ensure the safety of horses and jockeys.
Stewards also took into account that the Bureau of Meteorology had forecast persistent rainfall to continue throughout the afternoon, so there was no prospect of the track drying out and enabling racing to continue.
RV’s Racing Operations department will review the upcoming race program in order to determine whether any changes are required to accommodate horses affected by the abandonment.
Any trainers who had a runner engaged at Yarra Valley can nominate their horses for the meeting at Sandown this coming Wednesday by emailing Racing Operations (RVRacing@racingvictoria.net.au) before 4pm this afternoon.
