Any owners heading to next month’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale will not only get the chance to shop for their next racetrack star, but are also invited to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour organised by Racing Victoria (RV) on the opening morning.

Melbourne’s most prestigious yearling sale gets underway at Oaklands Junction on Sunday, 2 March, with more than 800 quality youngsters by some of the country’s most revered and emerging stallions set to go through the ring across three days of feverish trading.

They include more than 20 yearlings sired by Victorian breeding’s elder statesman Written Tycoon, whose chestnut colt out of multiple Group 1 winner Tofane – a $3.1 million purchase by Yulong at the 2022 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale – is sure to create interest and intrigue from across the world.

The prized colt will be one of the last lots to go under the hammer on day two, and to whet the appetite ahead of the sale RV will offer all owners the opportunity to gain a unique insight into the Victorian thoroughbred industry by hearing from some leading racing and breeding experts.

Starting at 9am on Sunday, 2 March, the tour will cover various aspects, including:

  • An overview of racing in Victoria and the current state of the industry, from prizemoney levels to an increased focus on integrity;
  • The benefits of the VOBIS program and the raceday perks available to licensed owners;
  • An overview of the thriving breeding sector in Victoria;
  • What bloodstock agents look for when purchasing a yearling;
  • The affordable opportunities available to invest in a yearling with a syndication company;
  • RV’s efforts to improve welfare outcomes for retired racehorses through the Off The Track (OTT) program.

RV also welcomes all visitors to its OTT Marquee, which will be located at the rear of the sales complex near the Black Caviar Marquee.
