Racing Victoria (RV) wishes to advise that the race meeting scheduled for bet365 Park Wodonga this Sunday, 5 January has been brought forward due to forecast hot weather.
The seven-race meeting will now commence at 11.10am (AEDT) and conclude at 2.15pm (AEDT) to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Having considered the latest forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) this morning and subsequent veterinary advice, RV has confirmed that all other race meetings this weekend will proceed as programmed with RV’s Procedure for Racing in Hot Weather Policy enacted to ensure the health and wellbeing of horses and participants.
Measures in place will include additional veterinary staff at meetings, reduced time on course and in the mounting yard for horses, along with additional water for horses and participants.
Consideration was given to changing race times at Ladbrokes Geelong tomorrow (Saturday, 4 January), however the BOM advised that increasing cloud cover and a likely sea breeze throughout the afternoon would ensure the feels like temperature is lower than the forecast temperature. They also noted that temperatures are expected to decline through the second half of the meeting.
