RV Stewards' Report - Anthony Cranston

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have concluded an investigation into the conduct of licensed trainer Anthony Cranston.

The investigation related to an injury sustained by and the subsequent euthanasia of an unnamed two-year-old filly (Vino Rosso x Macca The Great) on 29 April 2024.

RV have issued two charges against Mr Cranston pursuant to Australian Rule (AR) 231(1)(b)(iii) and AR 231(1)(b)(ii) (in the alternative), which state:

AR 231 Care and welfare of horses 
(1) A person must not: 

(b) if the person is in charge of a horse – fail at any time: 

(ii) to take such reasonable steps as are necessary to alleviate any pain inflicted upon or being suffered by the horse; 
(iii) to provide veterinary treatment to the horse where such treatment is necessary for the horse; and/or 

The particulars of the charges are summarised as follows:

Charge 1

On 29 April 2024, between 9.00am and 7.00pm, Mr Cranston failed to provide veterinary treatment to the Horse where such treatment was necessary.

Charge 2 (in the alternative)

On 29 April 2024, between 9.00am and 11.00am, Mr Cranston failed to take such reasonable steps as were necessary to alleviate pain being suffered by the Horse.

The charges issued against Mr Cranston will be heard before the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date to be fixed.
